Siemens RDG160T Manual, Specifications and Replacement Options

The Siemens RDG160T is a wall-mounted room thermostat with LCD for fan coil units, chilled or heated ceilings and compressor-based DX equipment. It runs on AC/DC 24 V and drives valves and ECM fans with DC 0…10 V signals, or uses relay outputs for On/Off control and 3-speed fans. The full manual is below, along with the key specifications and commissioning notes.

Setup and Commissioning Notes

The data sheet does not list error codes, but it does set out the checks that solve most commissioning problems. These are the points worth getting right on site.

Set the DIP switches before fitting the front

Select the application with the DIP switches at the rear of the thermostat before you fit the front housing to the mounting plate. On power-up the thermostat resets and all LCD segments flash, which shows the reset was correct. After about 3 seconds it is ready for commissioning.

Check the control sequence (P01)

If the unit only cools or only heats, check parameter P01. The factory setting for 2-pipe applications is cooling only, and heating and cooling for 4-pipe applications.

Displayed temperature does not match the room

Recalibrate the built-in sensor with parameter P05 if the temperature on the display does not match the measured room temperature. The calibration range is ±3.0 K.

Wiring and protection checks

There is no internal fuse and no internal line protection for the outputs, so the supply needs a circuit breaker of no more than 10 A. Fans must not be connected in parallel: connect one fan directly and use one relay per speed for any additional fans. If AC 230 V is connected to terminal L, use only valve actuators rated for AC 230 V.

Fault and condensation symbols

The display has a fault symbol and a condensation symbol (shown when a dewpoint sensor is active). The X1, X2 and D1 inputs can be set as a fault input or dewpoint sensor input via parameters P38, P40 and P42, so check which inputs are configured and what is wired to them when either symbol appears.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I download the Siemens RDG160T manual?

You can download the Siemens RDG1.. data sheet that covers the RDG160T from this page: RDG160T manual (PDF). It is Siemens document CE1N3181en dated 2015-07-29 and includes the applications, technical data, terminal layout, connection diagrams and dimensions.

What are the Siemens RDG160T specifications?

The RDG160T runs on SELV AC/DC 24 V and draws a maximum of 2 VA / 1 W. It has three relay outputs (Q1 to Q3, AC 24…230 V), two DC 0…10 V actuator outputs (Y10, Y20) and a DC 0…10 V ECM fan output (Y50). The built-in sensor measures 0…49 °C with an accuracy better than ±0.5 K at 25 °C, and the housing is rated IP30.

How do I wire the Siemens RDG160T?

Connect the 24 V supply to G and G0 (for DC 24 V, G is positive and G0 negative). Terminal L supplies the relay outputs Q1 to Q3 at AC 24…230 V. Y10 and Y20 drive DC 0…10 V valve actuators, Y50 drives an ECM fan, X1 and X2 take a sensor or contact against M, and D1 takes a contact against GND. The supply needs a circuit breaker of no more than 10 A, as there is no internal fuse. Follow the mounting instructions supplied with the thermostat.

What applications does the RDG160T support?

It is set up with DIP switches for 2-pipe and 4-pipe fan coil units (including 2-pipe with electric heater or radiator, and 2-stage), chilled or heated ceilings, and 1-stage or 2-stage compressors in DX-type equipment.

What is the difference between the RDG160T and the RDG160TU?

Both are 24 V thermostats with a timer and DC (or On/Off) outputs for valve and fan. The RDG160TU is the UL certified version: its relay outputs run at AC 24 V class 2 through terminal C instead of AC 24…230 V through terminal L, and it has a wizard to choose °C or °F at start-up.

Is the Siemens RDG160T still available?

The RDG160T is listed in our catalogue under SKU RDG160T. Check the RDG160T product page for current availability, or contact our team if you need help sourcing one.
