Honeywell ML7984A4009 Manual, Specifications and Replacement Options
The Honeywell ML7984A4009 is a 24 V field-configurable linear valve actuator from the ML7984 series. It mounts directly onto Honeywell V5011 two-way and V5013 three-way valves, self-adjusts to a valve stroke of up to 19 mm, and accepts Series 70 (2 to 10 Vdc or 4 to 20 mA) and Series 90 (135 ohm) control signals. The full Honeywell manual is below, followed by the key specifications, fault checks and where to buy it.

Common ML7984A4009 Faults and What They Mean
These checks come straight from the installation, wiring and checkout sections of the Honeywell manual.
Valve drives fully closed or fully open when the signal is lost
This is the designed fail position, not a fault. On signal failure (disconnected or no signal), a direct acting actuator defaults to the closed position (stem down) and a reverse acting actuator defaults to the open position (stem up). Check the signal wiring back to the controller first.
Actuator moves the wrong way or ignores the controller type
The ML7984 must be field configured with the DIP switches beside the input terminal block. They set Series 70 Vdc, Series 70 mA or Series 90 operation and direct or reverse action. Turn the power off before changing them. For Series 90, the manual notes operation can be reversed with DIP switch 3 without changing the wiring.
Weak or slow operation on multi-actuator jobs
Voltage at T5 and T6 must not fall below 22 Vac or 24 Vdc while running or generating closing force. Allow 0.5 A maximum per device, and wire the power supply to every actuator in true parallel. Do not daisy chain power from one actuator to the next.
Short delay before the actuator responds
The manual says there is a short delay on every signal change to screen out unwanted signals, and the actuator ignores input changes until it has finished repositioning to the first signal. This is normal behaviour.
Valve does not close off properly
The valve stem must be threaded into the actuator drive shaft all the way, with no threads showing, and locked with the set screw supplied. Also confirm the valve body arrow points in the direction of flow. Never connect 24 Vac between any of the signal input terminals: the manual warns this causes device failure.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I download the ML7984A4009 manual?
The Honeywell ML7984 Product Data sheet (form 95C-10753-02, revision 05-11) is a free PDF download on the Controls Traders website. It covers mounting, wiring for each signal type, DIP switch settings and checkout for the ML7984 series.
What are the ML7984A4009 specifications?
Per the Honeywell data sheet, the ML7984 runs on 24 V 50/60 Hz or 24 to 28 Vdc, draws 6 VA running and 12 VA when seating the valve, strokes up to 19 mm in approx. 63 seconds, and delivers 710 N nominal closing force. Operating temperature is 0 to 55 °C.
How do I wire the ML7984A4009?
Connect a class 2 24 V transformer or 28 Vdc supply across terminals T5 and T6, then wire the control signal to the input terminals shown in Figures 7 to 10 of the manual for your controller type. T5 and W are factory connected internally, so it suits a 3-wire system. Set the DIP switches with the power off.
Which valves does the ML7984 fit?
The ML7984 mounts directly onto Honeywell V5011 two-way and V5013 three-way valves. Separate models are made for the A and C or the F and G valve body types, so confirm your valve body before ordering.
Can an ML7984 replace an old ML784?
Yes. The manual lists resistor kit 272822 for replacing the old ML784 in 4 to 20 mA applications and for multiple Series 90 applications, with wiring diagrams for replacing master and slave motors.
Is the ML7984A4009 still available?
Controls Traders lists the ML7984A4009 under SKU HON-VAL-ML7984A4009. Availability changes, so check the product page or contact our team to confirm before you order.
